The 6 Keys To Success

(Click On The Headlines Below To Read More)
We live in a culture that can get anything, almost immediately with very little effort.

Hungry? —> Uber eats will have food at your door in under 20 minutes.

Hurt yourself? —> An ambulance is one phone call away.

Want some gadget that will make your life easier? —> Amazon, same day delivery.

Want to feel differently? —> Take a pill.

Living in this hyper fast paced convenience society conditions us to expect the same in all endeavours.

There has been a lot of advancement in the knowledge of exercise physiology and training. There are also definitely intelligent forms of exercise, like Pilates, that have at their core an aim to heal and repair any issues that may exist.

However, there are NO short cuts when it comes to changing your physical body. read that again. It simply takes time, repetition and consistency!

TAKE AWAY —> CONSCIOUSLY REMIND YOURSELF THAT REAL HEALING AND TRANSFORMATION TAKES TIME AND THAT EVERY HOUR IN CLASS IS ANOTHER STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, WHICH, IS ALL THAT MATTERS…
The mantra, “no pain, no gain” has been associated with working out ever since Jane Fonda coined the phrase in 1982.

The saying has been bastardised to the point where we think we need to push harder and harder to see results. In a Pilates practise, the opposite can occur!

When clients try to perform the movement with all their might, they will naturally loose form, recruit the wrong muscles and forget about the principles of Pilates; concentration, control, centre, flow, precision and breathing.

TAKE AWAY —> YOU CAN’T RUSH THE CHANGES BY PUSHING FOR EXTRA REPS OR WORKING ON A RESISTANCE THAT’S BEYOND YOUR ABILITY. FOCUS ON THE PRINCIPLES OF PILATES, THE CUES BEING GIVEN AND KEEP SHOWING UP.
Comparison is only useful when you are unsure what’s going on.

Looking around the room can be disheartening especially when we instinctively do it to see if others are finding something as hard as we are!

It’s usually not even a fair comparison as people will find difficulty in different aspects of the class. If you are unsure of what the instructor is asking you to do, a quick glance left or right can help you keep up or confirm you are roughly performing the exercise correctly.

Beyond that, looking around the room will actually reduce the effectiveness of your practise.

Why? Pilates is a mind/body practice which means you need your attention turned inwards to grow that connection!

TAKE AWAY —> COMPARISON REALLY IS THE THIEF OF JOY. IN THE BEGINNING, GLANCE FORM SIDE TO SIDE TO HELP YOU STAY IN THE FLOW OF CLASS BUT THEN TAKE YOUR ATTENTION INWARD AND FOCUS ON YOU.
Starting anything new is hard in the beginning; hard to do, hard to make time for, hard to stay committed to.

I’ve found through other challenges i’ve tackled that it took an extra amount of focus to prioritise that new thing at first. After 90 days it becomes apart of my routine and comes much easier.

If you are not accustomed to making big changes stick, then this is a crucial element to learn before it’s too late.

To help you with this, write a list of core reasons WHY this is important to you, and stick it on your fridge or on the computer so you read it every day.

TAKE AWAY —> CONSISTENCY IS KEY! PRIORITISE YOUR PRACTICE, BOOK AND ATTEND YOUR CLASSES, NOTHING MORE, NOTHING LESS. LET THAT BE THE ONLY GOAL IN THE FIRST 3 MONTHS.
When you think you are relaxing in a stretch, you’re not, you could relax and let go so much more, like 50% or more.

The depth of understanding I have in this area has grown year by year and continues to do so a decade on.

In the beginning I was trying to push my way to new levels of flexibility and stretch which just doesn’t produce real change.

Learning to stay in a slightly less intense position of stretch, to breathe into the position and focus on letting go off all tension, before even thinking of going deeper, was such a long journey of understanding for me.

TAKE AWAY —> PRIORITISE CONNECTING WITH YOUR BODY AND LEARNING HOW TO FULLY RELAX AND BREATH WHILE EXPERIENCING A MILD STRETCH SENSATION IS GOING TO YIELD FASTER AND BETTER RESULTS THAN TRYING TO OBTAIN THEM WITH EFFORT AND INTENSITY.
Many people see Pilates as just a means to an end at first.

A simple transaction where you give some of your time and money to get what you want. Less pain, more strength, balance and flexibility.

In the beginning, it can be a struggle at times and difficult to enjoy the whole experience.
This can tie back into point #1. At some point, many students begin to enjoy and even cherish their PIlates time, wishing they could go back and find joy and gratitude for the amazing body they have even with whatever shortcomings they felt at first.

It would have made the journey so much more enjoyable from the start to have this realisation right away!

TAKE AWAY —> JUST RELAX AND FIND GRATEFULNESS FOR HOW AMAZING YOUR BODY IS, RIGHT NOW. IT WILL HEAL AND STRENGTHEN JUST BY DOING YOUR BEST, CLASS BY CLASS AND STAYING CONSISTENT. SMILE, ALL IS OK AND ALL WILL BE OK.

FAQ's

See the below section for answers to some commonly asked questions

A: The memberships are set up monthly so, even though it’s good to get into a routine of doing your 2 or 3 classes every week, you don’t have to.

If you have an unusually busy week you just make up the missed class the following week when you can. Planning ahead and around these life events to make sure you get in your sessions leads to long term consistency and that’s the real secret sauce!

A: The vast majority of our studio news and updates is shared in our private Facebook members group and on our in studio notice board. Please check them frequently to stay in the know!

A: You have to cancel a session 12 hours or more before the start time otherwise you lose the class, this is designed to allow everyone equal opportunity to get into classes.

Once per month you have a “life happens” pass where we allow you to make up for a reservation you are unable to make. You don’t need to tell us it will automatically be applied, however, we ask that you cancel yourself out of class via the app to allow someone else the opportunity to take that spot as soon as possible.

If you are unable to use all your sessions one month they are forfeited so we encourage you to prioritise your sessions in your schedule.

A: When you open the app in the drop down menu there are 2 options at the top “50+ class schedule” and “full class schedule” these will show you which classes are available to you.

As for which classes you should attend, hopefully your private teacher gave you an idea of which classes would be ideal but always feel free to ask for feedback from the teacher of your class.

After watching and helping people move better for hundreds of hours they can give you all sorts of tips and suggestions to maximise your practice. Remember, we are here to serve you and help you!

A: There is parking available in front of the studio, along the roadside and in the rear of the building. Please avoid parking in the closest space in the rear as we reserve that for disabled clients. ❤️

A: If you are late for class please still attend! If the front door is locked you may need to park and enter from the rear. Also, please be respectful of the class already started and get set up without distracting the flow. We ask that you be at least 5 minutes early if you are attending a circuit class as the teacher explains every station at the beginning. ❤️

A: If you are unable to make class for any reason no worries, please cancel via the app so we are aware, no need to call.❤️

A: There are 3 spaces on the waitlist, if the class is more than 12 hours away and you are next on the waitlist you will be automatically added and notified. Within 12 hours the waitlist STOPS operating and its “first come, first serve” for snagging any openings. Just check the app frequently as spaces open up almost every class!

A: Our reception hours at typically 9am – 12pm during the weekdays, however, our studio manager Robyn has the studio contact mobile phone at all times and does her best to answer within reasonable hours 😉 If she does not answer feel free to send a text message or email and we will reply within business hours.

A: Please remember that the way we account for members taking extra classes is to reconcile at a later point for the previous cycle rather than on the day.

Each member is entitled to their number of classes (8,12, or 16) plus 1 life happens pass make up class, extra reservations will then be charged at $17.50 each. Almost a third of our members take advantage of these cheaper extra classes every month so we encourage you to attend as much as you’d like to!

DOWNLOAD OUR SCHEDULING APP

The screenshots below will show you how book in classes using our online app.

Step 1:

Navigate to the app store on your mobile device, search for “The Pilates Klinik” and install the free app.

Step 2:

Click on the 3 vertical lines in the upper left hand corner to open the drop down menu.

Step 3:

You’ll see here the options including the full class schedule, the 50+ classes schedule and the creche. Click on “log in”.

Step 4:

There are many ways to get your account setup from here. Usually, we will set your password to be “Pilates1” and use the email address you wrote down on your new client form so try that combination first.
If that doesn’t work, you may already have a mindbody account, in which case the username and password will be the same. Alternatively, if neither of those two works, you can try logging in using the facebook button.
Hopefully one of those methods allows you to log into your account! You should then be able to see your membership setup under account details and you should be able to reserve classes without being asked for payment.
If this is not the case just call Robyn at the studio and we will fix the issue over the phone.
