In my early fifties I had a fall and broke my wrist. I didn’t think much of it, but my doctor recommended a bone density scan — and that’s how I was diagnosed with osteoporosis. I knew I had to strengthen my bones, so I joined a gym. I’m sure it helped. I just didn’t love it.

Then life took a turn: a breast cancer diagnosis, surgeries, and extended treatment, all of which takes a toll on your body. After recovery, rebuilding my strength was essential, so I started looking at every option available. That’s when I saw an advert for The Pilates Klinik and thought I’d give it a go.

I began with a private lesson to learn the reformer and build the confidence that I could actually do this. I was recovering from a frozen shoulder at the time, so I had real limitations. But when I joined the classes, the instructors were wonderful — they made adjustments so I could work within my range and complete every class. Over time, I got stronger and stronger. That was seven years ago, and I’m still here. I recently celebrated my 500th class, which I was very chuffed about.

Reformer Pilates is a genuinely fun way to exercise, and anyone can do it. The instructors at The Pilates Klinik are amazing — they offer alternatives for whatever issue you’re working with, and they check that you’re moving correctly and safely. The classes are fun, challenging and so beneficial. It’s not just for young, super-fit people. It’s for anyone, at any age.

What I love most is the friendliness. It’s not just about exercise, it’s about connections. Everyone has a smile for you. The chats before class and the coffees after are as important as the class itself. I’ve met so many lovely people here. I always go home feeling uplifted — and moving better, too. After a Feel Good class, I feel two inches taller.

Today I’m stronger, more flexible, and still improving. As an added bonus, my bone density results have stabilised without any medication.

If you’re thinking about joining, give it a go. I think you’ll love it.

What you do today can improve all your tomorrows.
