As I am fast approaching 80 years old, I decided that had to change my ways and lifestyle or I would be very old and crippled. I was unfit, balance was terrible, afraid of a fall and I needed a new knee and I hadn’t exercised in over ten years. If I wanted to have quality time in my old age, I seriously needed to do something. My experience with Gymnasiums was boring and caused suffering to my shoulders, so much so that I had to have 2 Rotator cuff repairs and shoulder replacement operations caused by lifting heavy weights. I decided that a gym was not for me, I needed gentle but strong exercises.
I chose Pilates Klinik because a staff member belonged to Pilates Klinik club and her results were outstanding.
I started less than three (3) months ago. I began with private lessons three times a week and then joined the classes. The private lessons allowed me and the instructors to see my areas of weaknesses. It took me five weeks to feel confident to join the classes. Some members go straight into classes. This is what I chose to do.
What I liked about Pilates is, it works every muscle in the body and within a short time my fitness and flexibility showed great improvement, and you don’t get that muscle pain that you get from a gym workout. You are tired for the day but that is expected. My body shape is more toned, and I lost two kilos without trying.
After six weeks my balance (essential for elderly people) had improved so much that I can go up and down steps without a railing for support. My crooked left leg that pointed outwards, is now straighter by 40%. My knee is stronger. I can walk faster.
This is going to be my way of life from now on, at least three times per week. Three hours is the minimum weekly commitment. I am aiming for four hours a week when I quit work. It is better than shopping!
The Pilates Klinick instructors know you, encourage you and explain to you, what you are doing and why. Each instructor is different and special in their own way.
