Almost everyone has heard of “Pilates” but very few can articulate what it is very well. So, what is it?
By performing movements and exercises in a particular way the body begins to realign itself, muscles that were dormant or weak strengthen, joints that were too tight gain freedom, imbalances in flexibility, balance, strength and stamina all improve.
Not only does your body begin to be capable of more and more, but you gain confidence in it. People who were nervous about old injuries or reoccurring aches/pains move past those fears and begin to feel better than they have in years.
Essentially, Pilates is a method of reversing the damage of a modern life so that the body moves and performs the way it is supposed to.
Unlike lifting weights or cardio based exercises classes, Pilates specifically targets the system of muscles that make up your core and all the stabilising muscles often not worked. There is a difference between gym strong and Pilates strong.
Beyond the physical advantages of reversing damage and maintaining a capable, strong body, Pilates is a mind-body practise. Having a few times a week where you get to connect deeply to your body, it’s movements and your breathe is so refreshing and rejuvenating. Clients often start Pilates to feel better physically but fall in love with how it makes them feel mentally.
“As a mother of 2, a wife and support for many others through my work, I have always found it difficult to put myself first. Pilates gives me permission to focus on my wellbeing and reconnect with who I am, apart from everything and everyone else. This has been life changing for me!” ~ Sarah. K
The Pilates method uses many pieces of equipment, the most versatile and well known is what we use for all our group classes, The Reformer.
One of the main advantages of the Pilates Method is the machine we use called, a Reformer.
It is a spring loaded, rope and pulley system with a moving carriage that can be used to perform hundreds and hundreds of different movements, exercises and sequences. The combination of moving parts and constantly changing tensions means in all exercises, you are forced to incorporate and improve many aspects of your physical ability including core activation and strength, balance, co-ordination and control. Your body begins to realign itself, healing imbalances, weaknesses and posture.
Many Pilates studios structure their programs differently with different focuses, read how we do things at the Klinik.
Our clients really appreciate the way we run our group classes. We offer different class TYPES and LEVELS, this means you can pick and choose the classes that suit your level of ability and fitness as well as your specific needs. You are able to pick and choose which classes work within your schedule from week to week without being locked into the same day/times. Being able to tailor your class choices means you will get so much more from every session because you’ll be in class with those of a similar ability as yourself working on similar goals.
Our Reformer classes are all 1 hour, some studios only offer 45 minutes sessions which is a lot of extra time when you add up classes over a few months.
We also stay true to the original Pilates Method and the power within that system, some studios have chosen to create a more fitness based program that aims to burn calories as a primary focus. Although there is nothing wrong with that, Pilates can be so much more powerful and transformative when taught by a knowledgeable and experienced instructor.
“Pilates started as an exercise form I didn’t hate, after a few months I loved how much more I can do and how much better I was feeling. I couldn’t believe how much my body had changed and continues to even now, 2 years later. Pilates became my hobby and something I look forward to every single time.” ~ Katie. C
How do our memberships work?
Our memberships are processed monthly which means, even though they are designed to give you 2 or 3 sessions a week, you don’t need to use them that way. Sometimes you have a busy week or a 48 hour bug go through the family, things happen, It’s really consistency over time that yields real results! So, with our memberships, you have 8 or 12 sessions to use anywhere within the monthly cycle that works for you.
We also have a bonus called the “life happens” pass. Every month each member has a built in free pass to allow for those unexpected things that life throws at us! As a member you can miss a reserved class and take another class anywhere within the month as a replacement.
Our memberships don’t have lock in periods of 12, 6 or even 3 months. They can be cancelled at anytime with only 2 weeks written notice before the next pay cycle. They can even be suspended at no cost for up to 3 months so holidays and sicknesses are not a problem.
We have an app that allows you to see all the live classes, book or remove reservations and see what you have upcoming. The flexibility all means it couldn’t be any simpler to fit into your life!

A final thought…
We are all apprehensive to try new things or look to add more into our busy lives, many people who end up loving Pilates the most don’t like exercising and are nervous to step inside any form of exercise facility. We have created an atmosphere that is welcoming, non judgemental, non competitive, patient and loving.
If you know you need to do something and have ever thought about Pilates, please take advantage of this free private session by calling Jade and come experience for yourself. We would love to share our passion of Pilates and help you too!
